I think I’m turning Japanese

By Holly | January 21, 2009

Today the first of two shipments from Japan came in.  So exciting.  I love getting the boxes from Japan.  I had a shipment come in from Ichiban Khan yesterday and while I was ordering Japanese things, the shipment was coming from San Fransisco and so doesn’t count.

About two weeks ago I got the itch to do some hookin’.  Hookin’ as in crochet, not selling the bod.  I sometimes need the extra cash, but yanno, Steve West would probably be a little pissed if I decided to make it on my back.  Unless it was a significant amount of cash, probably.  The world may never know.  So I get the urge to crochet and go looking around Ravelry to see what people are doing.  Now, I won’t crochet garments or anything but I’ll do dishcloths and the like.  So I am looking around and I come across tawashi.  Hmmm…tawashi.  Bright, colorful, cute dishcloths/scrubbers.  Seriously.  I was intrigued.  I poked around a little more and discovered that the Japanese have special anti-microbial, scratchy acrylic that they use for tawashi.  Damn.  I wanted in for sure.  So then I went to Etsy and checked out ichigonopantsu’s shop.  There I ended up ordering 12 skeins of yarn (she takes special orders!), 3 books, stickers, stationary and a stamp.  Why can’t I resist the cute?  It’s not just any cute either.  It’s the Japanese cute.  I am not a cute person nor do I play a cute person on T.V. but I cannot. resist.  So here we go.  If I am absent I am off crocheting my way to tawashi glory.

  1. My girlie would love this! I love it, too! If I wasn’t already over the top (in terms of yarn and UFOs), I’d be making tawashi, too. Something to look forward too, I guess.
