What did the UPS guy bring this morning? Why, 11 pounds of Icelandic wool!

What’s that? You thought I would just get a wheel or two? No! No way. I purchased two full bundles. That would be 15 to 18 wheels per bundle. That my friends is an ass-load of wool. Have a look at this picture just for perspective

That’s my darling girl holding the bundle. She’s 5′ 3″ 5′1″ (sorry, I was growing her fast. Good thing we went to the doctor yesterday), just for the record and that is one huge hunk o’ wool. I haven’t opened either bundle yet as I want to wait until I am ready to cast on because the bundles are going to expand. I am not sure how I am going to store them now, so I can’t deal with any expansion. What started this bit of madness? Ponchos. Ponchos on bicycle riders. In Copenhagen. Um, yeah. I decided that a poncho would be the perfect solution for staying warm on my bike in the winter. I hate wearing a coat anyway, and wearing a coat on my bike sucks balls but wearing a poncho on my bike would be the awesome so I ordered wool. Lots and lots of wool. Wool that smells like the zoo. Now I’ve got to get about deciding on a stitch pattern and casting on. Wonder if I can get one poncho done by SAFF? Here, have a look at the close-up while we ponder that last question.

Sorry, no pics but I did get out last night to catch the Harlot over in Virginia-Highland. What a total blast. She is so funny and so clever and it was totally awesome to see so many knitters in one place. Some people I recognized from their blogs, others from Knitch but most I’d never seen before. I got to talking with a woman in line and discovered that I am not the only solitary knitter out there. She apparently isn’t a real life joiner either so we had that in common – plus she was knitting really pretty knee socks for her daughter out of yarn she dyes herself, on the down low, of course. I will be heading over to Nease’s to check that out pronto. I need more sock yarn like I need a whole in the head but, whatever.

You know, I know that Stephanie is Canadian so she would of course have that accent but it was still a little strange to hear it coming out of her. Too, we are in the deep south which makes the accent stand out even more, eh? I was so accustomed to it in Michigan but it dawned on me last night that the only time I hear a Canadian accent anymore is usually when I am traveling outside of the country. Those Canadians go EVERYWHERE! I have seen that maple leaf pasted in some strange places.

Mr. tooks pics of the finished Fitted Tank and put them on my desktop for me. Problem is they all need to be rotated and imported, or is it exported, again to my desktop so when I upload them they will be right side up instead of reverting back to the original position. You still with me? Boils down to this: I can’t get the pics right so will have to post them later.

I do have a pic of my new ride:

Mr. surprised me with it on Monday. It’s the new Electra Amsterdam and it’s totally totally awesome! It’s 3 speed with coaster brakes and everything is enclosed so I could ride it in the rain with a skirt on and not get back-splashed. That is if I ever wear a skirt and ride my bike. Or, actually, okay, bought a skirt and wore it on my bike. I like having options. And gears are nice. After riding my fixed gear for so long I forgot how nice coasting could be. Oh yeah, the Amsterdam also has the old school generator to make the headlight go. Totally bangin’! The child in the pic with me? That would be The Girl, throwing her gang signs like she knows what she’s doing. That series of pics is actually hilarious because I stay basically the same while she is doing all this signaling. Sometimes I wonder if she wasn’t switched at birth. lol

Oh, and could someone explain to me why, why why why a motorcycle helmet – the brain bucket style – would cause Dude to go crazy? He was in the back snarling and jumping around so I went looking to see what the deal was. I was hoping it wasn’t mice when I realized it was the helmet. I picked it up and he about lost his shit. Of course Fat Beagle goes by and doesn’t even give it a sniff. It’s got to be having a brain the size of a pea that makes Dude so nutso.

So far, there has been dinky progress on MS3. Behold:

that would be all of Clue #1, Chart A! Woo! I suck! It’s really not my fault. First I had to wait for all the appropriate supplies. Got those. Here’s a little detail:

Mr. took these pics so the work isn’t stretched at all. He’s totally paranoid about messing up my WIPs, which I appreciate. I think I am doing pretty well considering it’s my first big lace project. I just follow the pattern and it’s really just variations on knit & purl, right? Then I spent last weekend on my bike:

Saturday we rode to Clarkston. That was somewhere in the 25+ mile range. That trip was kind of spur of the moment so we had no padding. Sunday we put on the padded shorts and rode out to Stone Mountain. That’s 35 miles roundtrip. Mr. was laughing about how “that’s not too bad” when it finally dawned on him that we felt so worn out because it was 35 miles on fixed gear bikes. 35 miles of pedal, pedal, pedal. The last few miles were just hunker down and get it done. My legs were tired, I was gritty and my hoo-hoo was numb. But I did it. I love riding my bike. I plan to ride my bike everyday we are at the beach. That should be awesome since it’s flat and I can go like hell. In between bike rides I plan to knit on my stole, get some sun and work on my alcoholism.

Then, too, the last three nights have been taken up with movies in my park, some IFC thing. Tuesday was Raising Arizona, Wednesday was Princess Bride and tonight is Napoleon Dynamite. So I have been sitting out there and knitting on my RSC sock. I can’t pay attention to a chart, gab and drink so sock knitting is the natural alternative. Y’all keep your fingers crossed that the rain is done for tonight. If it does rain at least we won’t be far from home.
