Moms is in NYC. She and her husband gave the trip to themselves for Christmas. Then they found out ASHRAE was happening up there this year and combo’d up which makes it even better as they are “letting” the company pick up part of the tab. Nice, eh? I can’t complain though. They’ve sunk the money in and don’t get paid properly so I am cool with the company picking up things like this even if I get totally jealous and wish it were me instead. Me instead as in my taking the paid holiday to NYC. No me instead as in me not getting paid properly. And definitely not me instead as in me having to attend the ASHRAE show and having the pigs talk to my boobs whilst making not so subtle passes or outright asking me to meet them in their room later. Dig? I mentioned to Moms that if she just happened to be in SoHo she should stop by Purl, you know just in case she wanted to bring me a souvenir. I get a call from her this morning that they are at a coffee shop down the way from there waiting for the shop to open. Ooooohhhhh. They’ve got The Fibre Company’s Terra which I have been eyeing for Ysolda’s Gretel. That pattern has my sister’s name all over it and her birthday is coming up in two weeks. Moms gets into Purl and calls me up. Not only has she located the Terra, she’s describing in detail the colors and helping to decide on sis’s yarn. We decided to go with Dark Indigo for her because it will totally go with her favorite coat. I had her throw Logwood Purple in for me since she’s there and I can’t get it locally. I can’t wait for her to get home so I can get started. That is if she makes it home. NYC is one of her favorite places and when she was in Purl she sounded a little breathy…like she might just get lost petting all the fiber.

Sorry no pics – I hate that, personally – but I will update with those later. I’ve finished Fyne and some other random things that I haven’t blogged about yet. I’ve been completely sucked into the Ravelry vortex and have been way too lax with this blog.

I’ve finished up a few things lately that I should really get up here. First we have the Endpaper Mitts from Eunny Jang as modeled by The Girl

She’s a study in pinks and blues. I’m curious about when this whole “gangsta” thing is going to be over with her and her friends. Anyway, I knit those in Louet Gems, caribou and aqua. I guess I used fingering weight? It used to be called Louet Gems Pearl. That’s how long those things were on the needles – I forgot the yarn. Nice.

I knit a sweater for Senor. He was cold and it’s way easier to knit a sweater for him than it is for Poopsie, The Fat Assed Beagle.

Doesn’t he look smart? Don’t worry, the pink is less humiliating than the fact that he no longer has balls. I did that up in some cheapo Lion’s Brand cashmere blend I had laying around. No pattern. I knit a ribbed tube, heh heh heh, with a rollneck and two button holes for his arms. It fits perfectly and he doesn’t even attempt to get it off. If his garments are even the slightest too big – most store bought clothes are – he’s out like Houdini.

Let me see…I got some picks of the neck steek on Fyne right before I realizd I had fucked up the placement by one stitch and had to rip it back

Things are going much better now but I am worrying about how to do the back neck steek. I am trying not to think about it ’til I get there. I know. Good luck. I’ve been dreaming about the god damned thing.

Lastly, Grandma. Swan Lake was a huge hit. She ran all around her retirement home showin’ the ladies. They oohed and aahed over the stitches and the beads and the fact that her Granddaughter knit it BY HAND! Big gold star for Holly! She’s excited to wear it everywhere but especially while she’s smokin’ the other residents at cards.

I started another hat for Mr. but no pics at this time. Later.

So, let’s discuss Ravelry. It is the perfect forum for me. I can check out everyone’s projects, stashes, queued patterns, etcetera and I don’t have to interact with anyone. At all. It’s a non-joiner’s dream site. I don’t want to sound antisocial. I am not. Okay, well maybe sort of. I like to be in the know without having to contribute anything myself. So maybe I am a joiner, but a lazy-assed joiner? That could be it.

Fyne has been waiting. I decided to finish up the Endpaper Mitts so that the girl could wear them to Six Flags this Friday night. The first one has been done for months and months and months so it was time. I was about 5 rows out from finishing the second mitt when I decided to rip back the first mitt and redo about half of it. I had knit that first one a little tighter and it wouldn’t be right to have one snug and one perfect. Hopefully I can finish that one up Thursday – tomorrow night is The Shins. Side note: we saw Ryan Adams Sunday night and good god. The show would have been much better had he just played the fucking songs. I had no idea he was going to noodle out every.single.song.he.played. He needs to turn off the Grateful fucking Dead. I still have love for Ryan, but I’ll stick to the records from now on. Anyway, mitts:

The colors are brown and aqua – Louet Gems. The blue is less garish in real life. Pretty. I’ma knock these out, finish Mr.’s green socks and then get back on Fyne. I want to wear that sweater just as soon as it’s cold enough.

Dude. The bitch in the back of my head is piping up. I am debating whether to rip Fyne (Rowan Magazine #42), or not.

I am getting gauge but it still seems a little small and I am not sure about my stranding. Some parts seems a tiny bit puckery and I am not sure how it will all block out. My stranding isn’t tight but I know it could be looser. I am leaning towards the big rip but really don’t want to. I don’t really want to redo the work but I don’t want to be unhappy with the finished product. On top of all of that I am modifying the pattern to knit in the round. I am doing a purled faux seam up the sides to help deal with the color jog and the fact that the way the chart runs the pattern doesn’t match up the way my neurotic ass wants it to. When I get there I am going to throw in some steeks for the armholes and neckline. Those steeks are actually what got me to just say “fuck it” and cast on. Having never done steeks I was getting myself worked up over how to do them and placement and size and on and on and on. It was getting to the point where I was never going to cast on and I couldn’t let that happen. I hate pussing out on things. Granted, I could’ve probably found a pattern that called for steeks and followed that for my first foray into them, but that isn’t how I roll. Cross your fingers. I’ll know by the time I get home whether to rip or not.
